On January 12, 1926 Dickran M. Sarkisian of Forest Hills, NY received a patent for the first practical traverse rod. It was this traverse rod that finally allowed not only the hanging but the ease of movement of heavy designer draperies. Here is a patent drawing of that first traverse rod.
